Cons: No Red light at low power settings or snap on lens, nothing else negative. I've used energizers, petzl headlamps, and many others so I was skeptical to try these out. I was wrong, I now have 3-4 of them. One in every vehicle, and backpacking / hunting / fishing use. They are great for running at night / trail running. I also like to use these in gun cleaning / small electronic soldering / precision work. For a Cree X-lamp XP-C LED rated at 75 lumens (FL1 rating) that's not bad at all. The light runs on three AAA batteries, and includes three Duracell alkalines. You can also use NiMH or lithium cells. Output is pretty good; 75 lumens on high, 43 lumens on medium, and 15 lumens on low. The modes are adjusted with a dial on the right-hand side. In the reviews, there are a few complaints about the battery door. I found it very easy to take off, requiring a simple unscrewing with my fingers. There is also a small protrusion on the headband adjuster; this says KEY and will fit into the small groove on the battery door, acting as a screwdriver if you need it. The headband fits nicely, and can be adjusted for almost any size head. It's not for helmet use though.The light can be adjusted downward, but not sideways or up. This is fine with me. The ratcheting system holds the light's position where you want it; it's nice and strong. The beam is white... The three Cree LEDs are very bright and the strap is elastic and comfortable to wear. Placing the strap in the lamp is not very hard, but adjusting the length is difficult unless you remove it from your head first. To put the batteries (3 AAAs), there is a twist opening on the side (opposite the Axis name). It is marked battery so you know which side it is. There are 2 light levels, 1 press - high, 2nd press - low, 3rd press - off.You can tilt it up and down, but you can not position it side to side. The tilt angle is a bit limited, I wanted to position the lamp more down but it cannot move as far as I want it to. Once you adjust the angle, it stays there unless you move it again. |
