4.0 out of 5 stars Works well if you know how to use it, November 26, 2010

My wife used this bag on a recent trip where the overnight temps were in the mid 20's. It kept her warm and toasty while wearing only a single layer of light clothing. As with any bag, achieving maximum warmth requires good insulation from the ground (we use an inflatable mattress and pad). It's too heavy and bulky for hiking, but perfect for car camping.

EDIT: I don't know why Amazon chose to move this review to the Large bag, because my original review was for the Regular sized version of this bag. I still stand behind my original review of that bag. My wife has used this bag for two other cold weather trips since then with no problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6'5" and no complaints, February 14, 2012

We all have different bodies, so I will review for me. I am a big dude. 6'5" and about 325 pounds. Thick upper body due to years in the gym. I went this weekend and camped in Prince William Forest in Virginia. The wind chill hit 11 and the wind really got into my tent vents. When I climbed into my bag to crash out, it was like jumping into a cold pool in the spring. However, within 15 minutes, I was not only comfortable, but I could feel my skin getting warm to the touch. 30 minutes after climbing in and I felt like I was at home sleeping in my own bed. I was THAT warm.

My camping buddy was not so lucky. His bag was rated to 20 and he said he could not get warm all night. He even threw hot hands near his feet and held one in his hands. He also thought his face was going to freeze off. I didn't have that problem. Heat that was escaping my bag was radiating over my face. He opted not to stay the second night.....I refused to go home and waved goodbye... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good general purpose bag, but dubious for cold weather., March 21, 2011
This review is from: Coleman Big Basin Large Extreme-Weather Hybrid Sleeping Bag (Sports)
Let me start out by saying this is a good general purpose bag. But I felt I needed to write a review to challenge the claim that this is an extreme cold weather bag, with a few caveats. Mainly I bought this bag for it's size. About me: I am 5'10" with a 46" chest. The circumference around my chest and arms with my arms at my side is 64". I cannot fit into a standard size mummy bag, and need something with a little extra room. This bag nails it in the roomy department. It is by far the largest bag I have ever owned or tried, and I have slept in the Big Agnes Whiskey Park bag. This bag is far roomier than the BA when actually sleeping in it. I am not exaggerating when I say I can zip the bag up with both my wife and myself laying in it. That gives me plenty of room to move around and sleep in any position I desire (when I am in it by myself).

That same roominess however means it is incredibly difficult for even a guy my size to keep this bag heated up. I can... Read more
