This is the first one I have not returned. You can function in a campsite with this but do not expect to cook or play a game of cards with this as your only light source. The shape of the globe creates "hot spots" so the lighting is not too even. The slide up reflector is a nice feature to keep the light out of your eyes if you do not need 360 degree lighting. The strobe feature is nice if you need to slip out at night to see a man about a horse, and finding your way back is easy because your tent will be the one that looks like the disco-tech. This little lantern can easily be carried around and provides more than enough light to see with. It provides more light than a 7 watt night light but not as much as a 15 watt incandescent bulb. The LED light is fairly harsh (compared to an incandescent bulb) as LEDs tend to be, but that is just an observation, not a criticism. The back is shielded so you don't get light shining in your face. It also makes sure that all the light is focused forward. The strob setting is of no use in the house, but I can see where it would be very useful if your car was stranded on the side of a road. What I did not like was the lack of some kind of diffuser/frosted lens to spread out the light better. The really bright LED just ALWAYS seemed to be in the corner of your eye, around camp or in a room, and that could get really annoying. Because there is nothing to diffuse the light you get direct light from the led and a bright reflection from the conical reflector inside,(a nice design I think). I'm not saying this lantern is too bright, just that a good LED behind a clear lens is BRIGHT and unpleasant to have in your field of view at night. I solved this by wrapping a single layer of wax paper around it fastened with tape.
