Spring loaded base pushes candle up to the correct level so the flame is always in the same place.Burn this thing in before using it, though, because the top does get quite hot and can make a little bit of an odor. I got this for use during winter camping to put inside my tent and keep moisture down at night. Works great for that. But, it still has all the limitations of a candle lantern...dim light, doesn't make a lot of heat, and you have to buy purpose built lantern candles for it. Those aren't unique to the Coleman design, so you can't really fault it. It does make a limited amount of heat, but don't expect it to keep a tent toasty in the winter. It will take a little of the edge off, though, without asphyxiating you, which is a plus. The candle holder had came unscrewed from the base during shipping and we had no idea that it was supposed to be screwed to the base so almost sent it back because of this. After thinking about it for quite awhile I figured it out finally. As others have said, it doesn't put out a lot of light but it is enough to see your way around,,, a little bit. It is well made and should last for years with careful use. |
