For the most part a solid cot seemed to be around this price range and the options became the trade-off between weight and quality / sturdiness. Then there is this cot, and in addition to being both a manageable weight AND plenty sturdy for anyone up to (or perhaps a bit over) 200 pounds it ALSO functions as a chaise lounge with about 4 available positions to angle the back rest.When I picked these cots and ordered some for my family I was thinking we could take these to the camp ground and use them to lounge / enjoy the day if we so choose and then they could get double duty locked into the horizontal position to sleep on. Another nice bonus when I pulled them out of the box my wife immediately said she wanted to use them out back at home too because, unlike most chaise lounges, they do not have the "straps that leave marks on your butt." However, it is too narrow for my camping comfort to sleep on. It is better than the ground or air mattresses on the ground, however. I slept better on this than on the ground or air pads on the ground.Also, I don't like that big hinge that sticks out where it reclines up and down. it is definitely an annoyance and you would need to put foam on the hinge or an air mattress(I used a blow up raft) so not to hit your arms or knees on the hinge(which ever end you sleep with your head). I slept with my head on the feet end of the cot since that hinge wasn't in my arms way. Moreover, I think its a great concept, but I would like it to be a bit wider for my longer stays camping. The problem is the fabric. All they say is moisture and mildew resistant. They do not saw what exactly it is! IT IS PLASTIC. Woven plastic, but still plastic. I looked on the back to read the tag to see what kind of plastic, but all it had was a California warning saying it contained chemicals that cause cancer. I hate plastic. The cot stunk like a new shower curtain. It is going back. If it was a decent canvas I would have kept it. What were cots made up before they had plastic? |
